CDO launches Reproductive Health and HIV Awareness Campaign for Adolescents and Youth in Mvomero District (May 29–June 7, 2025)

Through the Afya Yangu Maisha Yangu project, Childhood Development Organization (CDO) launches Reproductive Health and HIV Awareness Campaign for Adolescents and Youth in Mvomero District (May 29–June 7, 2025)

The campaign started at Wami Dakawa Health Center and the Wami Sokoine village office, featuring health education sessions, voluntary HIV testing mobilization, and individual health counseling.

This outreach is being conducted in close collaboration with:

  • The Medical Officer in Charge
  • Health Center Nurse
  • Community Health Worker
  • District Youth Development Officer
  • District AIDS Control Coordinator (DAC) & Council HIV/AIDS Coordinator (CHAC)
  • Local government leaders at ward and village levels

The objectives of this campaign are to:

  1. Educate adolescents and youth on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS
  2. Promote voluntary HIV testing using the Jipime Test kit (HIV self testing)
  3. Raise awareness about family planning methods
  4. Improve understanding of positive parenting and child nutrition

So far, over 255 young girls and boys have actively participated, receiving critical health education and voluntarily testing for HIV to understand their health status and take informed steps for their well-being.

As part of the activity, participants were trained on how to safely and easily use the Jipime Test kit at home. Many opted for on-site testing, while others took the kits for private use. The medical team has kept in contact for ongoing support and professional follow-up.

This initiative is part of CDO’s commitment to supporting government efforts in reducing new HIV infections particularly among adolescents.
