We had the opportunity to participate in the #MtotoKwanza programme aired by Abood Media, where we joined a panel discussion on the important topic of protecting children under the age of eight who are living and working on the streets.
Representing CDO, our Child Development Officer, Joseph Machira, joined representatives from the Police Force, the Social Welfare Department, and other child rights stakeholders to discuss the challenges facing these children and the collective efforts needed to ensure their protection, well-being, and development.
During the discussion, we emphasized that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, caring, and supportive environment. We also highlighted the importance of positive parenting, community involvement, and strong collaboration among stakeholders in preventing children from ending up on the streets.
Key messages shared during the programme included:
▪️ Every child has the right to protection, education, and proper care.
▪️ Parents and guardians have a vital responsibility in providing guidance and support to their children.
▪️ Communities should actively report cases of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
▪️ Government institutions and development partners must continue working together to safeguard children’s rights and welfare.
As CDO, we remain committed to promoting child protection, strengthening family care, and advocating for the rights and well-being of all children.
We sincerely thank Abood Media for providing this valuable platform, and we appreciate the contributions of our fellow panelists—Jesca Kagunila (Social Welfare Officer), CPL Seleman Kova (Police Gender and Children’s Desk), and Evelina Mwaisakila (Child Rights Advocate)—for their shared commitment to improving the lives of children in Morogoro Region.
Together, we can build a safer and brighter future for every child.
